White Beeches Golf & Country Club

Our Centennial Season

In 2018, White Beeches celebrated its Centennial Season. 2018 marks the beginning of the next 100 years of memories.

White Beeches was born in the early 20th century, not long after the town of Haworth itself was incorporated. While the golf course existed here for several years, the club did not officially incorporate until 1918. Two years later, the golf course was substantially overhauled and redesigned by legendary golf course architect Walter Travis. Travis is also the designer behind many notable courses including Hollywood Golf Club, Westchester Country Club, and both Jekyll Island Golf Club and Sea Island Golf Club in Georgia.

Over the last 100 years, there have been numerous accomplishments and strides made by the club and its membership. One of the most notable was Maureen Orcutt, a member of the New Jersey State Golf Association Hall of Fame. A lifelong member of White Beeches, she was winner of 65 tournaments across seven decades. There have also been many notable guests, including baseball greats Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle, and Yogi Berra.

In 2018, the club commemorated the Centennial Season with many memorable golf and social events, including:
  • A Centennial mixed Opening Day for members on April 28th
  • The dedication of a Centennial Tree (a White Beech, of course,) adjacent to the first fairway
  • The dedication of a Centennial Bridge adjacent to the ninth green
  • A “throwback” tournament using golf equipment from the 1920’s, including hickory shafted golf clubs
  • A Centennial Gala dinner event for members to commemorate this special occasion
  • The dedication of a Centennial Clock adjacent to the first tee
It was a magical season - and we look forward to another one this year!
